Frequently Asked Questions

We address the main technical, organizational, and legal questions regarding funeral services.

What should I do immediately after a death occurs?

The first step differs depending on the place of death:

  • In a Hospital, Nursing Home, or Clinic: The institution is responsible for issuing the official medical confirmation of death. You only need to call us at +34 638 12 54 06 immediately. We will arrange to collect the deceased and manage all necessary documentation.
  • At Home: You must first call the medical emergency services (061 or 112) so a doctor can officially certify the death. Once the official medical certificate is issued, call us to proceed with the transfer and preparation.
Do I have the right to choose my funeral home if I have funeral insurance?

Yes, absolutely. Under Spanish insurance legislation, the family of the deceased has the absolute and inalienable right to choose the funeral home of their choice, regardless of which insurance company they hold their policy with.

You only need to inform your insurance company that you want the services to be provided by Grupo Funerarias Costa del Sol, or call us directly at +34 638 12 54 06. We will coordinate with your insurance provider to validate coverage and process all financial claims.

How much time must pass before a burial or cremation can take place?

According to the Mortuary Sanitary Regulations in Andalusia, no burial or cremation can be carried out until at least 24 hours have passed from the legal time of death recorded in the civil registry.

Similarly, the law establishes an ordinary maximum limit of 48 hours, which can be extended in extraordinary cases requiring special judicial authorizations or chemical preservation treatments (embalming).

How does funeral pre-planning work and what does it cover?

Funeral pre-planning consists of arranging future funeral services during one's lifetime. It works as a guaranteed fixed-price contract: you choose every detail (casket type, cremation or burial, flowers, service) and leave the service fully paid.

The main advantage is that the rates are locked in, preventing your family from facing future price increases or making difficult decisions during a period of grief. We offer interest-free financing for up to 24 months (0% APR).

What are the requirements for international repatriation?

To transport a body abroad, it is mandatory to:

  1. Obtain the official death certificate from the Civil Registry and its certified translation into the destination language.
  2. Have a certified embalmer perform complete chemical preservation.
  3. Prepare the body in a special hermetically soldered zinc coffin enclosed within a solid wooden air-travel crate.
  4. Process the mortuary visa and authorization at the Consulate of the destination country in Spain.
  5. Obtain the sanitary permit issued by the Spanish health authorities.

We manage all of these procedures and airport logistics.
